the longer one

Mallory McCrory (she/her) grew up in Kennebunk, Maine with a lack of friends and an abundance of free time. Spurred by an overactive imagination, she fell in love with the horror genre at a young age, which has persisted into her thirties. She has spent the last decade on a journey of self-exploration, making friends with her own queer autistic identity. Mallory’s brand of horror oozes elements of psychological and “quiet” horror, often incorporating elements of folk horror, the gothic, or existential dread. Some of the recurring themes she explores in her writing include LGBTQIA+ identity (including relationship dynamics and sexuality), externalized or internalized homophobia, isolation (physical and/or mental), and mental health.

Mallory is eager to contribute her voice to the field of horror and LGBTQIA+ fiction and plans to pursue an MFA while working on her debut novel. She holds a B.A. in English & Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University, where she became a member of Sigma Tau Delta—an English honor society that recognizes high achievement in English language, literature, and writing. Mallory is also the founder and editor-in-chief of (s)crawl, a horror-focused literary magazine that amplifies and uplifts marginalized voices. She currently lives in Toronto, Canada, with her partner and two cats (one sweet and floofy, the other a nocturnal chaos demon).
